Any parent faces the question of how prepared their child is for school and how to choose the right school for them.

Choosing a good school is a responsible task for parents, and each parent must decide for themselves what a "good school" means for them and their child.

Most parents will answer that a good school is where children learn well and have no problems. Then come good conditions, prestige, comfort, experienced teachers, and so on. (But the priorities may vary).

What exactly a good school means and what its concept should be, is a subject of serious discussion for psychologists, psychiatrists, and educators. However, when a parent faces the concrete question of which school to send their child to, they expect a more concrete answer. We also try to give an answer to this question as realistically as possible.

First and foremost, parents should focus on the proper adaptation of the child, both psychologically and physically. The age of the child and the choice of school should be considered.

The school should be chosen in such a way that it maximally meets the individual needs of your child. Implementing this can be quite difficult.

We, mental health professionals, often face a situation where a child studies well in "a good school" but does not feel happy and does not love school. The age-old conflict here is very wide - from the beginning to the end of the elementary class.

What could be the reason for this? This may be influenced by various circumstances in different environments.

This time we will pay attention to the elementary classes.

It is important that a child is prepared not only with initial knowledge for school but also that they are ready for cooperation in the collective, teamwork, understanding of others' needs, teamwork with peers, as well as with adults. Apart from that, it should be noted that there is a general expectation that a child of 6 years old should always have at least 45 minutes of physical activity on a study day.

The transition to a new regime may be accompanied by a great hope that it will solve all problems for them, which they have previously associated with the school.

It may be the case that the final decision about choosing a school and starting studies is not so much about age and literacy, but about evaluating the well-being of the school environment and the specific school's adequacy to your child's needs.

In such cases, if you have questions about your child's school adaptation, contact a psychologist.

Our psychologists will determine how prepared your child is for school and provide you with counseling on other interesting issues related to choosing a school, based on how and on what criteria it is better to choose a school for your child.
